Light Rigid Light Rig Light Rig
 

Light Rigid - A vehicle (no axle limit) which is greater than 4.5 t GVM, but less than or equal to 8 t GVM plus a trailer of not more than 9 t GVM.
Also includes vehicles that carry more than 12 passengers.

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • You must have held a C (car) provisional or open licence for at least one year
  • Pass a knowledge test. Information is available in booklet from Queensland Transport titled "Your Keys to Driving in Queensland"
  • Pass a class LR practical driving test which is a Competency Based Assessment.

Medium Rigid - A vehicle (2 axle only) which is greater than 8 t GVM, plus a trailer of not more than 9 t GVM.

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • You must have held a C (car) provisional or open licence for at least one year
  • Pass a knowledge test. Information is available in booklet from Queensland Transport titled "Your Keys to Driving in Queensland"
  • Pass a class MR practical driving test which is a Competency Based Assessment.

Heavy Rigid Heavy Rigid Heavy Rigid
 

Heavy Rigid - A vehicle (no axle limit) which is greater than 8 t GVM, plus a trailer of not more than 9 t GVM.

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • You must have held:
    • A class C provisional or open licence for at least two years
    • A class LR or MR provisional or open licence for at least one year.
  • You must have prior experience in driving a manual motor vehicle, as a prerequisite to starting driver training in heavy vehicles
  • Pass a knowledge test. Information is available in booklet from Queensland Transport titled "Your Keys to Driving in Queensland"
  • Pass a class HR practical driving test which is a Competency Based Assessment.

Heavy Combination - Either a heavy rigid vehicle with a trailer greater than 9 t GVM, or a prime mover and semi trailer.

  • Minimum age 19 years
  • Have held a class MR or class HR provisional or open licence licence for at least one year  
  • Pass a knowledge test. Information is available in booklet from Queensland Transport titled "Your Keys to Driving in Queensland"
  • Pass a class HC practical driving test which is a Competency Based Assessment.
